Detailed Description: Unframed Limited Edition Print of "Chant to Nature" by Robert Lyn Nelson.
Robert Lyn Nelson was instrumental in reviving the format known as "tryptich" to present his large paintings in limited editions.
The tryptich, or three panels which comprise a single image, dates back many centuries to a time when religious icons were painted in this format so they might be folded together for convenient travel between monastaries in the middle ages.
An excellent student of art, Robert was aware of this tradition when he was seeking a solution for the problem of how to present his largest works on lithographic presses that were limited in size. The result was some of his most sought after editions.
Chant To Nature reveals the wild beauty of old Hawaii. In the background we see several of the primitive outrigger canoes that the bold navigators of Tahiti, guided only by legend and their knowledge of the ocean, sailed to Hawaii to colonize the new land.
In the foreground, colorful reef fish swim beneath the waves, unaware of the coming of the new humans to the unspoiled land. Among the most ancient looking of these creatures is the trumpet fish. |
