Beauty's Legacy

For many years Robert Lyn Nelson created only one triptych per year.  These three paneled paintings, with their panoramic perspective were reserved for the artist’s major subjects and are among the most sought after of his originals.  “Beauty’s Legacy” is a classic work featuring humpback whales, green sea turtles and spotted eagle rays.  It is also a work of history since the face of West Maui is changing fast.  No longer does the old whaling ship Carthaginian reside in Lahaina harbor, and the beautiful cane fields which once decorated the slopes of the west Maui Mountains like a Hawaiian quilt are things of the past.  This painting, one of Nelson’s very finest, truly is a legacy of a time that is rapidly fading into the warm sunlit glow of the past.
