Robert Lyn Nelson Original Artwork Acrylic and Oil on Canvas Custom Mat and Frame Art Size: 3 Panels 21"x17" Framed Size: 32"x64"
For many years Robert Lyn Nelson created only one triptych per year. These three paneled paintings, with their panoramic perspective were reserved for the artist’s major subjects and are among the most sought after of his originals.“Beauty’s Legacy” is a classic work featuring humpback whales, green sea turtles and spotted eagle rays.It is also a work of history since the face of West Maui is changing fast.No longer does the old whaling ship Carthaginian reside in Lahaina harbor, and the beautiful cane fields which once decorated the slopes of the west Maui Mountains like a Hawaiian quilt are things of the past. This painting, one of Nelson’s very finest, truly is a legacy of a time that is rapidly fading into the warm sunlit glow of the past.

Robert Lyn Nelson's paintings are, of course, world famous and his original works are eagerly sought after. Even more rare, however, are the very few beautiful bronze sculptures that he created for a brief period. In this classic work two humpback whales entwine around an intricately formed coral formation. This lovely sculpture is cast in the traditional lost wax method. A clay sculpture is created. The through a series of age old techniques the sculpture becomes a wax form which is then encased in a mold. Hot bronze is then poured into the mold, the wax melts and is "lost" through a hole in the bottom. The sculpture is then finished and polished by hand, Unlike a great deal of contemporary bronze works, Robert's sculptures were created using the finest quality bronze and therefore polish to the most beautiful patinas that can be achieved. Foundry costs and the cost of art grade bronze is now so high that it makes production of editions such as these virtually cost prohibitive today. These incredible works of art will become much more difficult to find as time goes on. Shipping and handling charges separate. Robert Lyn Nelson Original Artwork Acrylic and Oil on Canvas Custom Mat and Frame Art Size: 14"x11" Framed Size: 24"x21" While the ocean can be a place of serenity and enchantment it is also a jungle where all living things participate in a constant cycle of survival. On land, the king of the jungle is the lion.In the oceans of the world the king of the jungle is certainly the orca, or killer whale. These “wolves of the sea” are some of nature’s most efficient hunters and possess not only speed and strength but also a keen intelligence.Orcas are found throughout the world but are perhaps identified most closely with the Pacific Northwest. In “Emerald Realm” Robert has pictured these stealthy predators as they glide through the waters off the wild Pacific coast. In the background we see the pine forests and rocky shoreline, silent witness to nature’s constant drama. The green seat turtle is known as the “Honu” by the Hawaiian people. These gentle looking creatures are some of the longest lived marine animals and seem to possess
the wisdom of age.Although they are a protected animal and cannot be hunted or harassed, they are also quite curious creatures. In this wry portrait of a Honu, this old creature seems to be investigating us as we explore his world.Perhaps he is trying to determine what strange species of fish he finds himself swimming with.As usual, Robert displays his mastery of color and light in his depiction of the bubbles and he glow of the sun through the water.

A photographer can show the world as it is.The artist, however, can show the world as he would like it to be.While Robert Lyn Nelson is adept at portraying the creatures of the ocean as accurately as anyone before him, there are times when he creates living still lifes from the elements with which he is so familiar.Irresistible Subjects is such a painting. Here we have a green sea turtle, a moon jelly and moorish idols all perfectly arranged around a perfectly placed coral formation.Nature may not always arrange her subjects with such a balance eye, but an artist like Nelson can, creating a perfect moment in time that may not ever have actually existed.

Yet all my blood turned to wine, and I have not been weary since."

A picture, they say, is worth a thousand words.Sometimes a painting does not have to have a deeper meaning or tell a specific story. It simply has to be beautiful. In Mini Roses by the Sea Robert presents us with a classic still life, perfectly rendered to create a brief moment, perhaps on a soft afternoon, when the light, the air, and the sound of the ocean in the backgound are just right to create this peaceful composition.

Since Robert's classic marine work has become so iconic it is easy to overlook the artist's amazing versatility. An avid student of the masters, he moves effortlessly from style to style and has created works in almost every genre from almost every time period. In "Our Seas for the Millennium" Robert gives us a tour de force which combines his own unique eye for the details of the marine world with a unique nod to the bold colors of the pop art era. Eight panels framed as one depict a who's who of the undersea world in all the colors of the rainbow. This is a stunning work with amazing visual impact. It calls to mind many artists of the fifties and sixties who were appropriating the almost dayglo colors of advertising and popular culture. However, the composition and reverence for the creature depicted are pure Robert Lyn Nelson. This is a rare and amazing work that will be one of the most talked about additions to any home.
